I read the most recent People magazine that had Healther Locklear on the cover and an article on her recent decision to hospitalize herself. It's hard to look at her and think, "Blonde, beautiful, rich - what does she have to be depressed about?" but apparently, she has this crap, too.
I wonder, though, with the recent number of people (women) coming out about suffering depression (Delta Burke, Dorothy Hamill, Kirsten Dunst, etc.) if there isn't a new trend coming...you remember when people would screw up publicly and then go to rehab? Is depression the new "rehab" (excuse for whatever)?
Do you think this could be a trend? What could this mean to us as a community? (Less stigma, more resources, etc.)

Re: Celebs and Depression: the "IN" thing?
Sun, June 29, 2008 - 9:53 AMin the past it was rehab for being alcoholic or drug addict, now its depression. i dont know, but if it opens up more resources, that would be really cool.
once there is a rehab for being overweight, i know i will be able to get donations to have a year long stay! (sorry had to make myself laugh :( ) -

Re: Celebs and Depression: the "IN" thing?
Sun, June 29, 2008 - 10:10 AMDreamer - you reminded me of something I did recently. There is a woman I know through my former job who has really gone out of her way to be extremely kind to me. She is getting up there in age and is small, but chubby. I wrote on her thank you note that she was worth her weight in gold, then said I was wrong. She was worth MY weight in gold!!!
