Is anyone else annoyed by that one? It's fine if you hate pharms, but if you really can handle things with st. johns wort, then maybe you shouldn't really be referring to it the same way as major depressive disorder or bipolar.

Just a random vent...I'm in a bad mood. Sorry.

i think that tribe was a political backlash at one point.
    I like it here better.

peoples opinions about meds reflect their experiences with them.
I am not on meds currently, but the black dog still knocks on my door (lucky for me it's to a degree I can bare with).
I have had 3 big bouts of MDD (I'd say I am recovered atm) and there is an 80% chance I could again. I mostly fight anxiety in the day-to-day.

I don't think it's useful arguing about meds/no meds (for other people), because it's people's experiences with them (or without them) that matter & to discount their experience is to marginalize their personal knowledge and invalidate them as people.
It's always funny to me when people are like "oh you've been depressed & you finally found something to deal with that unbearable agony. You know, I don't think it's right for you to deal with your agony in THIS way, you should *insert advice here* and suck it up" Like how do these people not feel like jerks saying it?

i hope your mood improves - whatever way you choose!

Yeah, good point. It's wonderful if *anything* works for someone...if it's homeopathic, that's awesome. I tried that and really hoped it would work for me, and for some physical things yes but my chemical imbalances are just not going to be okay without meds. It's the judgment that the rest of us are just addicted to meds/brainwashed that is what bothers me. That's great that you are doing okay off meds. I know for some people there are triggered episodes, and they can be okay off meds after a while, and for others it's a constant thing. I've tried (stupidly) to go off meds multiple times over the years, hoping I had gotten past the need for it...but all it did was send me into depression and cause consequences that could have been avoided had I not been so hardheaded about needing to be off meds. It didn't help that people made me feel guilty about it...and I don't think they should. Everyone's body/brain is different.

Lets not get too into labeling Rachel. As for help, wither you need a little or a lot I think we as a tribe should do what we can. It offend seem little enough, bu it's something.

What did I label? I don't understand. I wasn't trying to be offensive.

Rachel, you weren't being offensive. That particular tribe is a hot button for some because they (Leslee and Roger, who some think are the same person) came into this tribe at a time when a very vulnerable young woman was a member, and about to start on (IMHO) deperately needed medication. They started their rant and would not let up, so I kicked them out, suggesting that they start their own tribe, which they did. They badmouthed me like there was no tomorrow, at one point suggesting that I (!) had connections to big pharma and had "sold" the name of "depression tribe" to some pro-pharma outfit. IMO, it's nothing but scripted lunacy.

The main problem with that tribe, again in my opinion, is not that they ask people to question taking medication, it's that they have no room for dissenting opinions. If you go back far enough, you can find quite the scathing remarks about me and how I manage this tribe. I no longer bother with reading their claptrap, for that is what I believe it is...if they can come up with something as ridiculous as my selling out to big pharma, it calls their whole rap into question.

So, bottom line? Don't worry, and don't bother with those morons (unless you want to, and some on this tribe do belong there as well, and I don't have a problem with that).
